Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 2 (Passenger Terminal 2)

Basic overview

Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 2 (T2) is located in Chek Lap Kok, Lantau Island. It is the core comprehensive terminal building of Hong Kong International Airport that is upgraded and rebuilt in conjunction with the three-runway system (3RS).

The first generation T2 was launched in February 2007. In the early days, it only had check-in services and no boarding gate or arrival area.； It was closed for comprehensive reconstruction in November 2019. The project cost HK$12.9 billion and adopted a phased opening model:

September 2025: The tourist bus waiting hall will be put into use

May 27, 2026: The new departure hall (check-in/security check/departure) is officially operational

End of 2026: Concourses, boarding gates and arrival areas will be fully open

After reconstruction, the total construction area is about 300,000 square meters, with an annual passenger handling capacity of 15 million in the early stage and up to 30 million in the medium term. It is equipped with 28 boarding gates, 34 bridge seats + 29 remote aircraft seats.

Positioning and core functions

It focuses on smart vitality, leisure shopping, and short-distance regional routes, focusing on serving low-cost airlines and short-distance cross-border passengers. It has about 15 airlines (including Hong Kong Express, Hong Kong Airlines, etc.), diverting about 20% of the airport's passenger flow, and releasing T1 to protect long-distance international high-end routes.

In terms of transportation, it is seamlessly connected to the T1 main building, Airport Express, Haitian Ferry Terminal, and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port.； There is a large cross-border tourist bus terminal with 41 bus berths, which gathers cross-border buses, Hong Kong and Macao shuttle buses, and hotel shuttle buses.

Business and supporting facilities

It integrates trendy retail, multinational catering, leisure and entertainment, and is directly connected to the large-scale commercial complex 11 SKIES, creating a one-stop experience of "airport + business district", known as the "Airport Version of K11".

Full-process self-service travel configuration: a large number of self-service check-in and self-service baggage check-in equipment, multi-language services supporting WeChat/Alipay payment；

Global 5G coverage, intelligent indoor navigation； Facial recognition and biometric customs clearance are used to make the entire journey paperless, significantly shortening the waiting time. ；

It is fully equipped with barrier-free facilities, maternal and child rooms, prayer rooms, charging rest areas and other convenient services.
